5 ways to improve e-learning with the Internet of things
Why e-learning is so important?
In the last two decades, e-learning has become a major part of the education system. So many universities offered many of their courses to learn online for free. Not only that, websites like Udemy also put a huge step as an e-learning platform by offering thousands of different online courses related to thousands of fields. So e-learning started to become a popular method not only among students but also among teachers.
However, things moved so softly until COVID-19 (Corona Virus) came to the scene. After that, over 80% of schools and universities were closed and more than 1.4 billion student’s education has to stoped according to UNESCO. In a pandemic situation like this, so many school teachers and university lectures all around the world tried to minimize the damage to their student’s education by doing online tutoring with the help of e-learning.
Therefore the demand for e-learning platforms and video communication apps like Zoom and Microsoft Team got highly increased. However some of these e-learning methods not successful for a group large number of students. Even though the Internet of things may have some methods to help for a better e-learning experience. So let’s discuss a few ways to improve e-learning with the Internet of things.
How to improve E-Learning with IoT
Before we start, I should say that IoT is a highly complicated modern technology that has spread not only in the education field but also in almost every single field. Elearning, smart farming, IoMT(Internet of Medical Things), Industrial Internet, and many more concepts have become a reality only because of IoT. But today we are only gonna talk about how IoT can affect on education field. So let’s discuss 5 points that are mainly used in eLearning.
(1) Remote access to LAB
One of the most incredible teachers that we can get from IoT is the connection between two objects that are physically far away from each other. But with the internet of things, these two physically distant objects can be connected virtually. Therefore a student can use a lab without being there physically. IoT made it possible to remotely connect to equipment and implement their experiments.
(2) Remort Learning / Self Study
Smartphones and computers are the most commonly used smart devices among students and that can connect to the internet very easily. So these are the smart devices that made it very simple to access any educational material in a very short period of time. Without the Internet of things, e-learning is not possible. Therefore this becomes a major point in e-learning.
(3) Recommendations and push notifications
We can track the courses students follow and suggest more related courses with the help of the internet of things and machine learning. Furthermore, if some student is weak at one particular subject, then we can find out that by going through their exam results. After that, teachers can suggest some extra courses to improve their knowledge. And it is possible to even send a notification to their parents about their exam results with the internet of things.
(4) Real-time access to the global library
Another important aspect of IoT is a worldwide connected library system. That enables users to access the physical or e-books in no time by making a global library system management. It builds a large collection of books and libraries in order to get access to online resources. Therefore students have 24/7 access to almost every single book in the world.
